This past Saturday, Nick Mocan, a Partner with the firm, presented as the Keynote Speaker at the University of Guelph’s School of Engineering Professional Development Conference. Through various presentations and workshops led by industry professionals, the conference aims to bridge the gap between school and the workplace and guide students towards success by developing critical skills, knowledge, and expertise.
“To grow as an engineer, and to grow as a person, you need to step outside of your comfort zone.”
Nick’s keynote centered on three themes that have driven him to become one of Crozier’s key water resources engineers and a leader in the firm’s business development:
As a Professional Engineer with experience in both Canada and the United States, Nick shared how these ideas helped ignite his professional development and growth from the beginning of his career to where he is now. Starting as Crozier’s first engineering student in 2004, and its only Engineering Intern in 2005, he’s watched and helped guide the company’s growth to over 130 employees across 4 offices. Over the years, he’s done a lot more than just water resources engineering, including providing expert witness testimony for land development disputes, carrying out advanced hydraulic analysis, taking part in corporate budgeting, and developing strategic business plans.

“The truth is that everyone will take a different path to success. So many of the opportunities that have changed my life and my career came from having a strong work ethic and a willingness to take on new challenges, expand my horizons, and ask questions. Today I’ve shared my story with you. Now, I want to challenge you to build your own story and ignite your career.”
Nick is a proud Guelph alumnus, and earned his B.Sc.(Eng.) in 2001 and M.Sc. in 2006, both in Water Resources Engineering. In 2013, the School of Engineering recognized him with the Mid-Career Award, and in 2017, he accepted the Award of Excellence alongside Crozier & Associates’ founder Chris Crozier.
