As reported in The Financial Post, Collingwood, Ontario has placed at the top of the small cities category in the Canadian Federation of Independent Business’ annual small business rankings. The survey, which compares 121 communities on their entrepreneurial qualities, was released in conjunction with annual Small Business Week. Each community was rated on fourteen key indicators, including the number of self-employed, number of businesses per capita, business property tax rates as well as overall optimism.
With the economic landscape within Canada continuing to change as a result of oil pricing fluctuations and many other factors, local governments and businesses continue to be challenged to find new ways to create and capitalize on opportunities for success. As the National Post points out, while entrepreneurship exists in both large and small communities across this country, it may be of greater importance in the country’s smaller communities.
CONGRATULATIONS, COLLINGWOOD!
