The Peace Ranch, a community mental health agency in Caledon Ontario, celebrated the Grand Opening of its newest initiative, a 1,250 sq. ft. greenhouse. Funded by a Trillium Foundation Grant secured with the assistance of the Palgrave Rotary Club, the greenhouse will extend the agency’s current summer market garden program into a year-round enterprise, providing meaningful work skills and business training for individuals living with serious mental illness and health issues.
Crozier & Associates, through its involvement with the Rotary Club of Palgrave, provided site plan design services and permit expediting with the Town of Caledon for the project. Despite the relatively small building size, the new greenhouse is situated within an area subject to regulatory restrictions by the Niagara Escarpment Commission, the Toronto Region Conservation Authority and Provincial Wetland features. Additional considerations included special fire code and access requirements associated with the building’s location within a collection of group home buildings that cater to extended care.
Our team was pleased to expedite site plan engineering, secure approvals, and coordinate the overall construction, ahead of schedule to give the Peace Ranch crew an early boost on the growing season.
