Wood Frame Buildings On The Rise!

On September 23rd Ted McMeekin, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, announced amendments to the Ontario Building Code which will increase the allowable limit of stories on wood frame buildings from four to six, effective January 1, 2015.

This landmark decision, long advocated by the building industry and spearheaded by BILD (Building Industry and Land Development Association), OHBA (Ontario Home Builders’ Association) and RESCON (Residential Construction Council of Ontario), will introduce safe, affordable, design options to Ontario’s housing , rental and office markets. Importantly, it will unlock innovative development opportunities from the building community to assist Ontario’s towns and cities meet provincial Growth Plan goals.
