Pratt Family Honoured with MacLaren Legacy Award

It has been said that the focus and skills needed for effective philanthropy are much like those required to build a successful business – from problem solving and commitment, to passion for the potential at hand. There are many examples in our industry of developers whose award-winning projects and community philanthropy reflect this.

[1]It is always a pleasure to see when that is recognized, as it was recently in Barrie, Ontario, when the Pratt family of Pratt Homes received the MacLaren Art Centre’s Legacy Award for their contributions to the city spanning over 100 years and six generations.

That the honour was awarded in the same year that saw the unveiling of the Spirit Clock by local artist Ron Baird at Pratt Homes’ newest Yonge Station [2] development, is fitting. The landmark installation is the first of a number of public art pieces which will be featured throughout the development in partnership with the legendary sculptor and artist who created Barrie’s famous “Spirit Catcher”. This tribute to Barrie’s heritage and art culture stands, along with the Pratt family’s philanthropic record, as an innovative expression of their commitment to community-building.
