Amanda Pinto holds her award

The Professional Engineers of Ontario [2] (PEO) offers an annual award to an intern who exemplifies professional leadership in engineering. We are pleased to share that Amanda Pinto, a Land Development engineering intern at Crozier, was the recipient of this year’s prestigious G. Gordon M. Sterling Engineering Intern Award [3].

“This Award has motivated me to continue taking on leadership roles in the workplace and in Guelph and surrounding community. It has also encouraged me to work towards obtaining my professional engineering license and to pursue a post-graduate degree in stormwater management,” Amanda said.

Through Amanda’s work with Crozier’s Next Generation Group and the Crozier Women’s Initiative, she continues to develop her professional leadership skills, while pursuing a more encouraging work environment for women.

Amanda also volunteers her time as the Chair of PEO’s Grand River Chapter [4] 30 x 30 committee. Alongside the committee, she organizes workshops and events, which support the committee’s goal to increase the number of female licensed engineers to 30% by 2030.

With Amanda’s help, virtual events have been held in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Women in Science, Engineering, Trades and Technology. The committee has been able to host sessions dedicated to difficult conversations and negotiation strategies. She has also worked in unison with PEO’s 30 x 30 Task Force to host Western Region’s first Employee Awareness Session. The session showcased statistics on female engineers in Ontario and provided ways for employers to increase the number of women in engineering at their companies.

Amanda is Crozier’s first engineering intern to have received this award. Her passion and engagement within the industry is tremendous and we are thrilled that the PEO has recognized her early career success.

Congratulations, Amanda!
