Alderville Solar Park

The Alderville First Nation community is located on the shores of Rice Lake, north of Cobourg, Ontario. The community entered into a design-build contract with Johnson Controls Inc., to construct a 5.7 MW solar park. This was the first facility of its kind in Ontario to be 100% owned and operated by a First Nations community.

Construction started in the Spring 2012, and the First Nations community took responsibility for the civil components of the facility (racking for solar panels, roads and drainage works). Crozier was retained to act as Construction Manager for the community and oversee the completion of the civil works. Crozier also acted as the First Nation’s representative during discussions and negotiation with Johnson Controls.

Faced with adverse weather conditions and site challenges, the First Nations community worked through the winter and into the summer to complete all the requisite civil work. Crozier was on-site for the duration of the construction, and continued to assist the community in obtaining all the necessary approvals up to the commercial operation of the facility in October 2013.
