Midland, like many early Great Lakes communities, has a long and rich connection to the waterfront. Over the generations the area’s natural abundance and sheltered harbours, tucked into the southeast end of Georgian Bay, has attracted settlement, shipping, industry and tourism to its shores.
With the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Town of Midland and Mountain Ridge Estates Development Inc. on March 20, 2015, a new chapter in the story of the Midland Bay shoreline has been launched.
Crozier & Associates is proud to be a member of the project team for Mountain Ridge Estate’s proposed Midland Bay Landing Development. Located adjacent to downtown Midland on 16.24 hectares with almost 1,100 metres of frontage on Midland Bay, the mixed-use development will transform the former Unimin industrial lands into a vibrant, re-imagined waterfront as envisioned by the Town and community in their Waterfront Master Plan.
The development will include walk-up townhomes and condominiums with promenade-level retail space and green roof courtyards, a luxury suite hotel, and public access design elements including a waterfront promenade, new docking facilities, public park areas, and an amphitheatre.
Midland is a town that has never left the story of its past behind as it grew. Its’ buildings proudly display historical murals and its’ area museums, shrine and wildlife centre preserve its heritage. The Midland Bay Landing Development is another reflection of this. As the project restores the lands and shoreline and welcomes the public back to the Bay, with pedestrian pathways throughout the complex and between the promenade and adjacent neighbourhoods, it pays respect to the community’s long connection to this significant waterfront and offers an impressive view of its future.
