With new regulations from the Ministry of Housing in 2015 allowing six storey wood buildings in Ontario, Crozier partnered with Pratt Homes and ISM Architects to complete the structural design of three, 6-storey wood structures for Pratt Homes’s condominium development, The Gallery Condominiums, in Barrie, Ontario.
The Gallery Condominiums has 228 units, ranging in size from 800 to 1374 square feet. Each of the buildings feature two level underground parking. The complex also features Aylan Couchie’s landmark installation H.I.O Big Chiefs, which sits atop one of the buildings looking over Barrie.
Crozier & Associates has extensive experience designing wood buildings. The structural engineering team facilitated a design system that worked with the Client’s budget and their trades construction experience. Ultimately, a combination of engineered and sawn lumber products, complete with continuous tie down systems and site construction requirements were utilized to ensure compliance with the Building Code and to ensure serviceability items such as shrinkage and multi-storey drifting achieved without compromising the finishes within the structures.
Design commenced in late 2016 and The Gallery Condominiums were occupied in early 2018, we are proud to have been a part of this team and are excited for what these regulations bring to our industry.
