Acton Arena and Community Centre Expansion

The expansion and renovations to the Acton Arena and Community Centre in Halton Hills transformed the 15-year-old facility by adding 50,000 sq. ft. of building area to include:

As part of the project team, Crozier provided civil site engineering and design services for the twinning of the arena and community centre. The design for a broader “phased” arena construction program for the Town of Halton Hills included additional parking, expansion of the stormwater management program, relocation of a sewage lift station and various exterior services. The stormwater management component targeted LEED Silver certification.

Unique to this project was the storm drainage design which featured two outlets matched to discharge to pre-existing conditions and structured to balance the drainage between the outlets. The building’s low elevation presented design challenges to existing sanitary sewers and storm outlet. Crozier designed a new duplex sewage pump station to left sewage up to the local sanitary sewer. The use of a low-profile Triton subsurface stormwater storage system reduced earth moving costs, protected the building and a nearby Highway from flooding.
