Field Inspector, Construction (Transportation)

Your Impact:

We are seeking a Field Technologist/Inspector to join our Transportation Construction Services team in either our Collingwood or Milton office to assist with monitoring construction of servicing works and road construction on various project sites.

You will be responsible for ensuring the project is progressing accordingly to the drawings, specifications, regulations and to ensure that a high standard of inspection is maintained.

How you will contribute to the team:

  • Observe and document road construction works on various project sites.
  • Document daily construction activity and transfer onsite log data to formalized construction files.
  • Assist the Contract Administrator with review of material quantities for preparation of payment certificates.
  • Conduct field surveys for ongoing construction operations related to granular placement, servicing systems, road and highway systems, and compare findings with design drawings.
  • Record and gather as-built data onsite and transfer to drawing files.
  • Liaise with owners, contractors, project team, and all other stakeholders to ensure compliance of construction projects with approved drawings specifications.
  • Obtain and gather data and materials from various sources to assist in preparation of construction documents.
  • Review contract drawings, standards, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation.


What you bring:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology / Technician or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Certification or ability to obtain C.E.T./C. Tech/rcji certification.
  • Knowledge of Municipal/County/MTO standards and requirements, OPSS/OPSD, CAIS Manual, and OTM Book 7.
  • Understanding of basic survey methods/techniques and ability to read/interpret drawings.
  • Working knowledge of construction, servicing, road construction, materials, methods, processes, and quality control for same.
  • Proficient with business software such as Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate, timely records for a multiple project workload.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, contractors, agencies, and clients.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with enthusiasm, flexibility, and motivation.
  • Able to work overtime on weekends and nights as required (occasionally and seasonal).
  • Valid “G” driver’s license in good standing and a reliable vehicle for travel to/from construction sites.
  • Must be comfortable with working outside.
