Migizi Miigwanan Eagle Feathers Secondary School

Migizi School_4_new cropIn September 2012, Crozier & Associates, through its association with the Aboriginal Business Network and Two Row Architect, was selected to provide structural engineering services for the detailed design of a 20,000 square foot institutional building addition at the Long Lake #58 First Nation Community, located in the Municipality of Greenstone in Northern Ontario. The building structure was composed of reinforced concrete foundations, concrete block masonry construction, 80’ span roof trusses and pre-engineered exterior wall products.

Due to unfavorable Northern Ontario climate, the structural design was fast-tracked by Crozier in order to expedite the construction process. From an initial site meeting in early September 2012, construction drawings for the foundation system were completed and issued in less than two weeks and construction commenced in early November 2012. To assist in meeting the aggressive timelines of the First Nation, Crozier also provided construction management services for the structural components of the expansion. This fast tracked design-build process was made possible by the strong working relationship between all project parties (Owner, Architect, M&E Engineering and Contractor).

The secondary school, with modern shops, classroom pods, a science lab, computer lab and gymnasium was issued occupancy in Fall 2013. It is the pride of the Community and a focal point of their continuing drive to develop and foster the education of their First Nation youth.
