The Preserve at Georgian Bay
Innovated environmental engineering contributes to successful OMB Decision.

In August 2007, an Ontario Municipal Board decision was rendered for the draft plan approval of a 430 unit residential development in Collingwood’s west end, long associated with the contentious Silver Creek Wetland Complex.  Working collaboratively with the local municipality, Conservation Authority and members of the consulting team, Crozier & Associates developed an environmentally innovative servicing strategy, given the sensitivity of the surrounding area, which included the Silver Creek PSW and floodplain.

The floodplain management recommended by Crozier included major flood channels and upgrades to the surrounding municipal drainage structures which will achieve safe flood-free conditions to many existing residents presently susceptible to the flooding of Silver Creek. The use of innovative storm water management including a 700m long linear wetland surrounding the development will establish a permanent buffer between the new development and the surrounding PSW. These measures were instrumental in the favourable OMB decision.

Construction of the first phase of the project is expected in 2008.
